OUTSYSTEMS IN ACTION / LOGISTICS & TRANSPORTATION

How a logistics operator proved an RFID scanner app in four weeks

The receiving record should explain what arrived, how it is configured and what needs attention. Explore this scanner application and the device and workflow decisions behind its rollout.

THE BUSINESS CHALLENGE. THE CHANGE. THE RESULT.

The challenge

End-of-life handheld software threatened depot operations that depended on accurately tracking reusable transport equipment. Standard scanning alone could not capture configuration, damage and delivery discrepancies.

The change

The operator validated an OutSystems mobile MVP in four weeks, then assigned three developers to extend the application, integrate RFID hardware and logistics records, and refine the experience with depot users.

The outcome

The source reports a gradual first-depot launch after prototype testing and usability improvements. Staff could scan standard configurations, record discrepancies and damage, and initiate repair work from the point of receipt.

DIGITAL ALCHIMIA’S DELIVERY PERSPECTIVE

What could this approach unlock for your business?

The useful next step is to connect the story to your own operating reality. Here are the questions we would bring into that conversation.

01

Prove the device boundary before scaling the workflow.

A scanner application depends on more than a successful screen demo. Test actual RFID hardware, offline capture and synchronization against realistic depot activity. OutSystems professionals can help isolate device integration from business rules so the next hardware change does not require redesigning every process.

02

Capture exceptions while the evidence is available.

A damaged item or delivery discrepancy is easier to resolve when the receiving record already contains the relevant context. Define who confirms an exception, which records need to change and how repair work begins. A phased rollout can then validate those responsibilities alongside the scanning experience.
